Dark Visions. By L.J.Smith. (2009). New York : Simon Pulse. ISBN-10: 1416989560.

Plot Summary

Kaitlyn Fairchild has been shunned and called a witch her whole life.It started with the drawings, the drawings of terrible things that come true. Kait’s life changes when she is invited to come study at The Zetes Institute for Psychic Research. There, she makes real friendships for the first time, and also finds love, (amidst other things, like the psychic link which connects all five teens’ minds together!) Kait falls for golden boy Rob, who has the power to heal using psychic energy, but Kait finds herself stangely drawn to psychic vampire Gabriel. Little does Kait know, that beyond her romantic choices lays the choice, and a fight, between good and evil.
Critical Evaluation

Originally published in the 1990s, Dark Visions was authored by the bestselling author of The Vampire Diaries series. None of these books are particularly challenging reading, but the immensely romantic love stories and supernatural elements will have teens gobbling them up as quickly as The Twilight Saga. This slightly different take on the vampire myth, including a bit of science fiction thrown in, is a refreshing cousin to the popular vampire tales in the supernatural romance genre.
Reader’s Annotation

Kait is a psychic teenage who has always dreamed of finding true love and friendship. When she and four other teens are brought to The Zetes Institute to be studied, she gets even more than she bargained for.
